I am of the opinion that children learn English faster than adults because it is demonstrated by many recognized linguistics that we have a critical period in which our brain is more disposed to acquire a language. To support this, there are many cases of children that speak two or more languages when are highly exposed to them.

I am of the opinion that listening is the most difficult skill to develop when learning a foreign language because when you get used to listen to a language it is easy to understand it, but it takes a long time and effort before you do it. To illustrate this, some linguistics theories state that learning a foreign language once the mother tongue phonology is already internalized can reduce individuals' abilities to distinguish new sounds that appear in the foreign language, so it becomes so hard to understand it.

I am of the opinion that when teaching English, it is not important to explain explicitly grammatical rules because that method does not works effectively at the time to learn a language. To support this, Stephen Krashen explains that formal language learning (i.e. memorizing vocabulary and practicing grammar rules) contribute very little to language acquisition, due to our brain's disposal to learn languages naturally through receiving large amounts of comprehensible inputs.

I am not of the opinion that when teaching English, Spanish should not be used at all because sometimes it is necessary to make clear something when the teacher has used all the resources to make him/her clear; however, the teacher must try as much as possible not to use the mother tongue. To confirm this, in my experience at university, teachers speak English almost all of the time, but there are cases in which they speak Spanish to be sure that the students understand what he/she said.
